Adverts

This is a selection of adverts of varying styles – at any given time Darkside has an average of 3 adverts that are active and running on different channels on UK TV. The Olbas adverts that are running in the “Recent” area are the latest.

Architecture

The first building is 122 Leadenhall Street, which is currently under construction. We did several of these buildings for the very talented Mr Oliver Treadway and this particular shot was used in a TV documentary and a book. The second building is presented in a much more stylized look; clear and concise whilst still very nice.

Character Animation

We do loads of character animation at Darkside, of very different styles and looks – from cartoon to photoreal. This set largely showcases some of our cartoon work, although the spaceman in the Iron Maiden video was completely CG in several shots.

Heavy Metal Taskforce

These Heavy Metal Task Force and X Machines intros were created at the same time and for the same programme but for different territories. We loved doing them for WAG tv! They are both a little bit ‘Transformers’ in parts, but inspiration really came from the intricate mechanics of Tower Bridge.

Hercules for ITN

This was created for ITN, but really the amazing thing was how it was produced. 1 very talented guy started it on a Saturday and delivered it on Monday… from scratch. Very cool.

ITN Election Night

We really had a great time doing this for ITN; they let us design from scratch the caricatures needed for the election night broadcast. Once we had designed them, we worked extremely closely with the art department at ITN to finalise the look and how it integrated with the live virtual set, but the animations were created entirely by our amazing team. Mrs T is our personal favourite.

LG

We did these LG animations a few years ago and they were run on one of the biggest screens in London’s landmark Leicester Sq. 24 hours a day, seven days a week!

LRX Detroit Launch

The Launch video of the LRX (now called the Evoque) at the Detroit Motor Show was a really tough job, though one we really enjoyed. It was directed by the extremely talented Nick Scott and was created in one month, including modelling, texturing, animation and rendering. It was an unusually large render size; Range Rover used multiple projectors to show it at the back of the stage, and we worked through Christmas, setting up layer after layer of renders with an immoveable deadline… the start of the Detroit Motor Show!

Mini Roulette

We created this Mini advert for M & C Saatchi, just 1 of several we have created over the years – though this one is the teams favourite!

Mission 2110

Mission 2110: 9 feet tall robots are always a very cool thing to build! Darkside have been commissioned to produce all CG-VFX elements for the first two series of CBBC’s exciting new childrens’ sci-fi show set in the not too distant future. The show cleverly shadows CBBC’s highly successful Raven format, but delivers a truly 21st century experience – where every second counts!

MTV Push promo

Another job created for the amazing Nick Scott. These are always interesting and challenging jobs, but that is exactly what makes this job such fun!

Network Rail

We have just completed the 3rd Network Rail job and started on the 4th. Whilst we came up with the basic concept, it was the director Nick Scott who took our idea and made it really work on screen! This set the style and tone for all the films that have followed and they are now shown on a regular basis on BBC and ITV news programmes.

Nile Comedy

These fun idents were created for Nile Television, Egypt’s national broadcaster and equivalent to the BBC.
