Workshop

CG Workshop
For a long time CG has been seen as a dark art; a myth that has been perpetuated by many in our industry so that prices can be kept high. However, as the technology has improved and computers have gotten faster, many effects have become relatively easy to produce, and we feel it’s time let everyone know how easy it can be. So a year ago we started running CG Demystified Workshops. Not only were they immediately successful, with TV production companies and Ad Agencies sending along groups of producers and directors, but we found animators coming along to get an understanding of emerging techniques such as “Linear Colour Workflow” and “Stereoscopic Production”.
We run several types of Fixed CG Demystified workshops, which are:
1) Introduction (1.5 hour session)
Which covers the basics of VFX/Animation Production and includes an overview of technologies involved.
General Workflow Principles:
- Preparation (Script to Screen)
- Previs
- Modelling
- Texturing
- Animating
- Compositing
- Q & A
2) Character Animation (2.5 hour Session)
Covers all of the topics in the Introduction, plus:
- Concept Story Boarding / Animatic
- Modelling
- Texturing
- Rigging
- Animating
- Render Looks
3) Visual Effects + (3.5 hour Session)
Covers all of the topics in the Introduction, plus:
- On Set Attendance & Supervision
- HDR Lighting (we were the first company using this technique in the UK)
- Live Action & CGI Integration (Set extensions etc)
- Linear Colour Workflow,
- Stereoscopic Production,
- Green screen workflow
- Match Moving
- Simulation (Hair, Cloth, Flame, Fluid, & Soft/Rigid Body dynamics)
- Q & A
4) Bespoke
This year we have also restructured our seminars to enable us to tailor the information to what is most relevant to you. This way we can pull together elements from different courses to create a bespoke session to best suit your needs.
We do offer a printed set of notes for the course.
Every day Darkside effects are seen on UK TV screens, from adverts through to major shows such as Spooks, Hustle, Outcasts, and Mission 2110. We are currently in production on 2 theatrical movies and working on the development of another 4.
We hope you will join us in 2011 and take full advantage of the incredible skill and knowledge our extraordinary team of artists has to offer. Remember, don’t be afraid of CG or of asking about CG.
We look forward to seeing you soon!
